Striscia la notizia: on the lookout for illegal bags

For more than a year and a half it has been illegal to produce and distribute non-compostable plastic bags in Italy, but many merchants are still not in compliance. This is what emerged from a report by Luca Abete on the Striscia la Notizia TV show that aired in Italy on April 25th. Data were collected thanks to reports from many citizens, but hidden cameras were also used, demonstrating the widespread practice of using outlawed bags. Shop owners must be very careful because some non-standard bags bore the text “ecological shopper”. With paper bags, on the other hand, there’s no doubt: there is no law against their use, they can be reused, recycled or used for household paper recycling. Also, if the bag bears the FSC logo, the consumer also has the guarantee that the product has been manufactured using materials coming from protected forests.
